Cambridge, East London– Laughter, learning, and lifesaving lessons filled Police Park in Cambridge East London on Friday, as Sidibene Ngomntana CCD Association hosted its second annual Emergency Day for children.
The event brought together children from various local schools, accompanied by their teachers and parents, for a day dedicated to safety awareness and emergency education. The turnout surpassed last year’s event, with even more enthusiastic young participants in attendance.

The purpose of Emergency Day is to educate children on how to keep themselves safe and avoid dangerous situations. “It’s important that our children understand who to turn to in emergencies and how to respond responsibly,” said one of the organisers.
The day featured captivating demonstrations from key emergency services, including the SAPS K9 Unit, Firefighters, EMS Ambulance services, and Traffic Officers. Each department took turns engaging the children with hands-on presentations that explained their roles and showed the real-life equipment used during emergencies.
The K9 Unit’s demonstration, in particular, left many children in awe, as trained police dogs showcased their skills in action. Firefighters demonstrated how they tackle fires, while EMS staff explained what to do in medical emergencies. Traffic officials also played a key role, teaching road safety through interactive activities.
The Department of Health and Department of Education representatives added to the day’s importance by delivering motivational speeches, encouraging children to take care of their health, education, and safety. But it wasn’t all serious – the event was packed with fun and entertainment.

Music and dancing kept spirits high throughout the day, and a lively competition with giveaways added extra excitement toward the end.Parents and teachers praised the initiative, calling it both educational and empowering. “This is how we build a safer future – by teaching our kids while they’re young,” said one parent in attendance.
Organisers declared this year’s event an even greater success than the previous one, with hopes to continue growing the initiative in years to come.—
