Qonce in the Eastern Cape was a buzz with energy today as the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), and youth empowerment organisation Bumb’Ingomso joined forces for a powerful and engaging community activation. The event formed part of ongoing efforts to educate, empower, and mobilise community members—particularly as the country observes the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign.
Bumb’Ingomso led impactful engagements on the ground, providing critical information on abuse and Gender-Based Violence (GBV). Residents were equipped with knowledge on how to identify abuse, access help, and contribute to ending GBV in their communities. At the same time, the IEC played a vital role in strengthening civic participation by assisting residents with voter registration and helping them confirm their designated voting stations.

This effort aims to ensure that all eligible voters are informed, registered, and ready to make their voices heard in upcoming elections.GCIS representatives also connected with the community, sharing updates on the G20 and South Africa’s participation on the global stage. Through these conversations, residents gained a broader understanding of the country’s international role and how global developments impact local communities.

Together, the three organisations delivered a united message: informed, safe, and active communities are the foundation of a stronger South Africa.
