A strong sense of unity and shared responsibility filled the air at David Mama Secondary School this week, as a host of organizations and community-based structures gathered in support of a safer, more accountable school environment.
The gathering took place during an official visit by the Eastern Cape MEC for Education Fundile Gade on Monday, whose presence underscored the seriousness of the issues at hand.
Representatives from various sectors — including civil society groups, local leaders, and school governance structures — came together to support the government’s ongoing mission to protect victims of violence and misconduct, and to ensure firm disciplinary and corrective measures for perpetrators.

Community members say the visit was not just ceremonial, but a vital step in reinforcing accountability and strengthening ties between government and the people it serves.
“Seeing so many hands coming together for the safety of our children was truly moving,” one community member shared. “It shows that when we all play our part, change is possible.”
The event highlighted the importance of community-driven partnerships in addressing social challenges, especially those affecting young people in schools. It also reaffirmed a key message: justice and healing are not just institutional goals, but community responsibilities.
As Eastern Cape continues its efforts to build safer and more supportive schools, the example set at David Mama Secondary may well serve as a model of what can be achieved through unity, compassion, and action.
