28 July is World Hepatitis Day, a global event to raise awareness about a serious liver disease called hepatitis. Hepatitis can lead to liver damage, cancer, and even death if not treated properly. This year’s theme is “Hepatitis: Let’s Break It Down”, and it sends a powerful message: we must remove the obstacles that stop people from getting the help they need.
These obstacles include:
- Stigma – Many people feel ashamed or afraid to talk about hepatitis.
- High costs – Testing and treatment can be expensive.
- Lack of access – Some communities don’t have nearby clinics or information.
But there is hope.
Hepatitis B and C can be prevented and treated. Hepatitis C can even be cured. That means we have the tools — we just need to use them wisely and fairly.
To fight hepatitis, we all have a part to play. Here’s what you can do:
🔹 Get tested — early detection can save lives.
🔹 Vaccinate newborns — protect the next generation from hepatitis B.
🔹 Talk to your healthcare provider — find out about treatment options.
🔹 Share the facts — help break the stigma by spreading awareness.
If we work together, we can end hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030.
Let’s not wait. Let’s act now.
