MTHATHA— The United Democratic Movement (UDM) is set to host its highly anticipated Eastern Cape Provincial Congress on Saturday, 28 March 2026, at the OR Tambo Hall on Mandela Drive in Mthatha, with proceedings scheduled to begin at 10:00.
According to UDM Provincial Secretary Mr Bulelani Bobotyane, the congress is expected to draw close to a thousand voting delegates from across all regions of the province.
The gathering will bring together representatives from the length and breadth of the Eastern Cape, reflecting what the party describes as its growing grassroots presence and organisational strength.“This congress represents the full breadth and strength of the organisation on the ground,” Bobotyane said, underscoring the significance of the event in shaping the party’s provincial direction.
The congress is expected to serve as a key platform for internal democratic processes, including leadership discussions, policy deliberations, and strategic planning ahead of upcoming political milestones. Delegates will also assess the party’s performance within the province and outline priorities aimed at strengthening community engagement and service delivery advocacy.
Political analysts note that provincial congresses often play a pivotal role in consolidating party structures and setting the tone for broader national ambitions. For the UDM, the Eastern Cape remains a crucial base, making the outcomes of this gathering particularly significant. With logistical preparations underway, party members and observers alike will be watching closely as the UDM convenes one of its largest provincial assemblies in recent years.
