Cape Town — President Cyril Ramaphosa will on Tuesday, 4 November 2025, receive the much-anticipated G20 Inequality Committee Report on Global Inequalities, alongside Nobel Prize-winning economist Professor Joseph Stiglitz and UNAIDS Executive Director Ms Winnie Byanyima.
The event will take place at Tuynhuys in Cape Town at 14h00, marking a major milestone in South Africa’s presidency of the G20.
Under President Ramaphosa’s leadership, South Africa’s G20 presidency created a new Extraordinary Committee of Independent Experts to tackle one of the world’s most urgent challenges — inequality. The committee, chaired by Professor Stiglitz, was commissioned to produce the first-ever global report on inequality to be presented to the G20.
The six-member panel of experts includes:
- Professor Joseph E. Stiglitz (USA)
 - Dr Adriana E. Abdenur (Brazil)
 - Ms Winnie Byanyima (Uganda)
 - Professor Jayati Ghosh (India)
 - Professor Imraan Valodia (South Africa)
 - Dr Wanga Zembe-Mkabile (South Africa)

The groundbreaking report examines global patterns of wealth and income inequality, exploring their effects on economic growth, poverty reduction, and international cooperation. It also outlines a range of actionable solutions for global leaders.
Among its key recommendations are proposals for debt restructuring and strategies to strengthen regional production of long-acting AIDS medicines and other pandemic-related therapies—aimed at ensuring equitable access to life-saving treatments.
This initiative represents a significant step in South Africa’s ongoing commitment to building a fairer, more inclusive global economy.
