On Friday, 28 February 2025, at approximately 17:00, an unsettling incident unfolded in Quigney, East London, when local police allegedly attacked several civilians. The incident reportedly involved the dragging and physical assault of a female civilian, which has been condemned as an act of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and an abuse of police power.
Witnesses are in shock, questioning the very purpose of law enforcement, which is supposed to protect citizens, not harm them. The incident has left many in the community feeling unsafe, as tensions between the police and civilians escalate.
One local resident, visibly distressed, expressed their concern: “How are we supposed to feel safe with this kind of protection?”
As investigations continue, this attack highlights the growing concern over police conduct and the need for greater accountability in protecting human rights. SAPS was not available for comment.
