Today, the Mayor of Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality, Exclusive Mayor Councilor Princess Faku, engaged with coastal region residents during a mayoral imbizo at Jan Smuts Stadium in East London. The event saw the participation of residents from 21 wards, who gathered to discuss various community matters and service delivery updates.
Councilor Faku began the session by providing updates on issues raised during the previous meeting, ensuring residents were informed on the progress of approved programs and projects. She also outlined plans for future service delivery improvements, including significant upgrades to infrastructure in ward 2. The mayor revealed that funds have been allocated for the construction of toilets, addressing a key need in the area.
In response to concerns raised by residents of ward 3, Faku confirmed that a budget of R2 million had been earmarked for the repair of roads, a project the residents had long awaited.
The session allowed for an open forum where residents voiced their questions and concerns. Several individuals expressed gratitude for the municipality’s ongoing service delivery efforts. A resident from ward 9 asked about the relocation of people in Stoney Drift, to which Mayor Faku assured them that the affected individuals would be moved to Amalinda Forest.
Andiswa Delanto, a resident from ward 50, took the opportunity to thank the mayor for the ongoing development projects in their area.
In her closing remarks, Councilor Faku assured the community, “We promise that we will deliver on the things that you are requesting from the Municipality,” reinforcing her commitment to addressing the residents’ needs and improving service delivery across the region.
This mayoral imbizo was part of an ongoing effort by the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality to maintain transparency and foster direct communication between the government and the community.
