Mdantsane – The Mdantsane community has been left reeling after a well-known 47-year-old taxi boss was fatally shot in NU 9 on Saturday, 14 September 2025. Local police are now calling on members of the public to assist in tracing the suspect linked to the shooting.
According to police reports, the incident unfolded when a resident staying in a house owned by the deceased informed him of an unknown man allegedly stealing copper from the property. The deceased, whose identity is known to the newspaper but withheld for investigative purposes, responded immediately and went to the house to investigate.
Upon confronting the alleged suspect, the man reportedly denied any involvement. The deceased then attempted to escort him to the police station. During this attempt, the suspect allegedly grabbed the firearm that the deceased had tucked in his waist and shot him in the upper body.
Despite being injured, the deceased got into his vehicle and gave chase, eventually bumping the suspect with his car. The suspect fell but quickly got up and fled the scene on foot through a nearby footpath.
When the occupant of the house reached the vehicle, he found the victim slumped over the steering wheel, still alive and asking for help. He attempted to find transport to take the victim to the hospital. However, by the time help arrived, the victim was found lying on the ground outside the car and had already passed away.
Police have opened a case of murder and an investigation is ongoing.
