KIDD’S BEACH, EASTERN CAPE – It was a moment of pride, gratitude and emotion as Kidd’s Beach Police Station bid farewell to one of its long-serving members, Warrant Officer Mlungiseleli Tetani, who is retiring after an impressive 35 years of dedicated service in the South African Police Service (SAPS).
The police station honoured Warrant Officer Tetani with a special final salute ceremony, recognising his commitment, loyalty and contribution to policing and community safety over more than three decades.
The ceremony marked the end of a remarkable chapter in Tetani’s professional life, as colleagues gathered to pay tribute to a man who had devoted much of his life to serving and protecting the people of South Africa.
Station Commander Captain Lonwabo Daniso led the farewell proceedings, acknowledging the important role played by experienced officers such as Tetani in strengthening discipline, professionalism and public confidence in the police service.

In a suggested tribute for Captain Daniso, reflecting the occasion, the Station Commander said:
“Today, we are not simply saying goodbye to a colleague. We are celebrating 35 years of commitment, sacrifice and dedication to serving our communities. Warrant Officer Tetani has given a significant part of his life to the South African Police Service, and for that, we owe him our deepest gratitude.”
Captain Daniso’s tribute also highlighted the importance of recognising police officers who have served their communities faithfully throughout their careers.
“Retirement does not erase the contribution you have made to this organisation. Your years of service will always form part of the history of our police station. We wish you good health, happiness and many peaceful years with your family as you begin this new chapter of your life.”
The final salute ceremony symbolised respect and appreciation for Warrant Officer Tetani’s years in uniform and his contribution to the policing profession.
For Tetani, the occasion marked both the closing of a long career and the beginning of a new journey beyond the police service.
In a suggested farewell message for Warrant Officer Tetani, he expressed his appreciation:
“After 35 years of service, I leave the South African Police Service with a grateful heart. I want to thank my Station Commander, my colleagues and everyone who has supported me throughout my policing career. It has been an honour and a privilege to serve our communities and our country.”
He also encouraged fellow police officers to remain committed to their responsibilities and to continue treating members of the public with dignity and respect.
“To my colleagues who remain behind, I encourage you to continue serving our people with dedication, honesty and discipline. Always remember that wearing this uniform comes with a great responsibility. Thank you for the friendship, support and memories that I will carry with me into retirement.”
The farewell ceremony served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by police officers who dedicate decades of their lives to maintaining law and order, often working under challenging circumstances.
As Warrant Officer Mlungiseleli Tetani takes off his police uniform for the final time, he leaves behind a legacy of 35 years of service to the nation.
For Kidd’s Beach Police Station, the final salute was more than a ceremonial gesture. It was an opportunity to honour a long-serving officer and thank him for his contribution to the South African Police Service.
