KEMPTON PARK, GAUTENG – South Africa’s first Police Service Summit took place yesterday at Emperors Palace, bringing together government leaders and business partners to tackle rising crime rates.
President Cyril Ramaphosa joined Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi and top police officials including National Commissioner General Masemola at the landmark event. The summit comes just eight months after the new Ministry took office.
Police leaders spoke openly about the big problems they face. “We need to find better ways to police the country even though we don’t have enough officers, money, or resources to fight increasing crime,” said Ministry officials.
The meeting focused on serious issues in crime hotspots like Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Cape provinces, where murders, gang violence, and illegal guns remain major concerns.

Business Against Crime South Africa signed an important agreement with police during the summit. This partnership will help pay for new technology in police stations, better systems for handling case files, and modern equipment for police labs.
“Efficiency In Action: Optimising South Africa’s Policing Potential” was the theme of the event, which aims to make South Africa safer for everyone in both cities and rural areas.
In his speech President Ramaphosa has emphasized the strengthening of the commitment between government, police, and businesses in working together against crime.
The real test now will be putting these plans into action to make all South Africans safer.
