C-tone Productions is set to deliver what promises to be the “Sunday Chill of the Year” at the Jan Smuts Stadium this Sunday, December 15. With a star-studded line-up of artists spanning multiple genres, the Afrika Unite Cultural International Festival (AUCIF) is more than just a musical event — it’s a call for unity across the continent.

The festival’s primary purpose, encapsulated in its theme “One United Africa,” emphasizes the need for African solidarity in the face of ongoing social challenges. Recent tragedies, such as the preventable deaths of children linked to illegal substances sold in certain foreign-owned spaza shops, have underscored the importance of working together to address such issues. Event organizers are urging South Africans to support legal immigration while fostering collaboration with those who contribute to the nation’s growth.

Originally scheduled for September 27, the festival had to be postponed due to a Chippa United Premier Soccer League fixture at the venue. The rescheduling presented several logistical and financial hurdles for the event team.

Event founder and director Luzuko Khohli explained: “We had already paid artist deposits, booked flights and accommodation, and secured service providers. Some artists couldn’t make the new date, which meant forfeiting deposits. Changing flight and accommodation dates also incurred additional unplanned expenses.”

Despite these obstacles, Khohli is optimistic. “We are ready to entertain our people. We’ve anticipated this day with great excitement. God has been with us throughout these challenges,” he said. Meetings with the Buffalo City Security Cluster have confirmed that everything is in place for a successful event.

An Updated Line-Up and Exciting Activities

The rescheduled date allowed for an enhanced line-up, which now features artists such as Semito, Lloyiso, Amapiano sensation Scotts Maphuma, Mlindo the Vocalist, and local gospel DJ Groovie Christ. Event media manager Sinethemba Gayiza highlighted these additions, noting that they bring fresh energy to the festival.

Another highlight will be an exhibition soccer match between fans of rival football teams Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. The Chiefs’ fans will be led by Man-B, while Qhawe will represent the Pirates’ supporters.

Partnering for Cultural Celebration

The festival is supported by the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts, and Culture (DSRAC) under the Mzansi Golden Economy program, as well as the Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency (ECPTA).

“Our partnership with Afrika Unite highlights ECPTA’s commitment to showcasing the Eastern Cape as a hub of cultural celebration and tourism excellence. Supporting events like this promotes sustainable travel, fosters community engagement, and drives economic growth,” said Vuyani Dayimani, CEO of ECPTA.

Andile Nduna, DSRAC Communications Manager, added: “Festivals like AUCIF are critical for developing and advancing all forms of art in our province. We are thrilled to partner with Afrika Unite in what promises to be an epic festival showcasing exceptional performance art.”

Ticket Information and Final Details

Tickets are available at Webtickets, Shoprite, Checkers, and Computicket for R200 general admission. Gates open at 12 PM, with the festival kicking off at 3 PM and continuing until late. Patrons are reminded that no bottles or dangerous weapons will be allowed at the venue.

Khohli encouraged live music enthusiasts to attend, promising a memorable experience. “Come watch Dumza Maswana, Nkosazana Daughter, Jaziel Brothers, Nathi Mankayi, Lloyiso, Scotts Maphuma, and dance to the religious grooves of Groovie Christ. This year’s AUCIF is truly the Sunday Chill of the Year.”
